I love punishment.

Postby Kyle » Wed Dec 31, 2008 12:43 am

Ok Since I love being a ginny pig so much I went and bought the new Motorola MotoROKR S9-HD. It looks like the design has been improved. The control buttons are redesigned and are no longe fluch they are little bumps like the old call/Play-Pause buttons. I gave them a good hour on my rollers bike trainer today and will give them another hour tomorrow on my stationary hill climber trainer. (Really work up a sweat). So far working good.

I also need to report that the sound quality in this new version is amazing! The bass is really good. The SRS (WOW) it is a big improvement. Also now when you use them as HFP for a phone call the sound is stero (Both ears) unlike the old S9's that were only the left ear.

I will keep you posted.

January 12 Still going strong.

Postby Kyle » Mon Jan 12, 2009 5:20 pm

Well, It is Jan 12th 2009 and I have used my new Moto S9-HD almost ever day and sweat all over them. So far they have not failed. I will keep you updated as time goes on.

I have decided to put my Jaybird JB-200's on eBay. But I will keep my BlueTrek St1's as backup.

S9

Postby ChakraChanter » Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:29 pm

Hey, I just recieved my Moto S9 in the mail last week and ordered it specifically for running and cycling, but after reading your posts, I have been shocked and dumbfounded. I also see that there are the new HD-S9 and that you purchased them. Are they significantly much better than the S9, or would you recommend the Bluetrek.

New Moto S9-HD

Postby Kyle » Thu Jan 15, 2009 2:11 am

If you can I would definatly get the Moto S9-HD over the basic Moto S9.
I have been using the new designed Moto Rokr-S9-HD for a few weeks now and they have preformed very well. I like them better than any other bluetooth headphones I have tried. My second choice is the BlueTrek ST1's (Be careful not to bend them the wrong way) I cracked a pair and had to get it replaced. BlueTrek did it free they have good customer support. I also have a pair of JayBird JB-200's and I like them too but the buttons are hard to use. I am going to list them on eBay this week.

Best Buy had the MotoRokr S9-HD on sale for $79 when I bought mine. The Bass produced by new SRS is OUTSTANDING!! I have never had a bluetooth headset with sound this good. I have had a few people complain that they cannot hear me that well when using them to talk on the phone. This is most likely due to the poor bluetooth stack that PALM has. I have never had good luck talking on the phone using bluetooth with any of the Palm Treo's / Centro that I have owned.

If you search through this forum you will see I have had many different bluetooth A2DP headphones. I think 8 or 9 different brands. I cycle a lot. Practially everyday and listening to music is part of my exercise routine. Having no wires is a must for me.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

new month...

Postby Kyle » Mon Feb 02, 2009 6:52 pm

Ok.. I have been using the Motorola Rokr S9-HD for over a month plus now and they still are running strong. I guess I will say that Motorola listened to user complaints (However never admitted fault) and re-designed the headphones to be more sweat resistant.

Unless they fail I probably will not report again. I have used these almost daily for about 90min a day.

So good job Moto "This is what the first release should have been!"

Bad News

Postby Kyle » Wed Feb 11, 2009 3:32 am

It happened. They failed the other day. the same problems as stated with the older S9's. So I am getting warranty replacements from Motorola.
I am kinda bummed. Like I have stated before I had thought they had fixed the sweat problem. I have noticed something new. I believe that the sweat is actually getting into the headphones through the speaker holes.

This time they failed only after I blew into the holes after a workout. I saw something in them and I tried to blow it out. They were sweaty and the second I did that the volume down started going repeatly. and started beeping and not responding.

So there you have it. I am going to try something I read about putting a water resistant/repellant on them. I remember I use to put somthing on my old car distributor cap and the plug wires to keep them dry and not corrosive.

wish me luck :P

P.S. still have my trusty BlueTrek ST1's so I am not totally out of luck.

Kyle -- thanks for chronicling your experience with the Motorola S9s! I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago for use with my BB Curve. I've used them about five times during workouts, with what I thought were fairly minor amounts of sweat. Just last night, it happened -- the buttons started failing.

I called Motorola this afternoon, using the 866 number you provided, and they told me that they would replace the headphones with S9-HDs. I'm anxiously awaiting them, and am hoping they will be more sweat-resistant than the S9s. I guess they're not totally immune, though, as obviously yours had failed after some time.

Anyway, thanks for going to the trouble of giving the play-by-play! It helps me know what to expect.

SD-HD

Postby Kyle » Wed Apr 01, 2009 11:17 pm

Luke,

I have been using my Moto S9-HD since I got the replacement FEB 16th, I hope I am not jixing myself but so far that have been working. Whatever you do, DO NOT get sweat or water inside the speaker hole. If you see some in there wipe it out with a cotton swab or corner of a towel. DON'T BLOW into the speaker cause you will just blow the sweat/water into the speaker wire trace and short it out. I know this because before I sent my old ones back I took them apart to see what happened.

My first pair would probably be still working if I had not forced the sweat into the speaker by blowing into the hole. Good Luck and please report back in a month or so. Let me know if they are still working. I too will post if mine quit again.

I do use them for over 60min each day and I sweat a lot like most athletes. So I consider myself a S9-HD poweruser.

Oh BTW you will like the S9-HD much better the the normal S9. The sound is 10x better.

Thanks for the advice! I'm looking forward to trying them out.

I'm very happy to evidently be receiving a pair of S9-HDs. Sounds like a great upgrade! Incidentally, I had some quality issues with the S9s and my BlackBerry. Seemed like I would have some audio distortion at times. What was odd, though, is it sounded better on a different BB Curve, and worse on yet another Curve. I'm hoping the S9-HDs will also remedy whatever possible compatibility issue there might have been.

I'll try to check back in after I have used the headphones for a little while. I hope to have good news to report!

Because of Kyle's posts, I have also purchased the Motorokr S9-HD Stereo headset. It is awesome! The sound is awesome!

They actually work with my 755p running SAG. I've had problems running SAG since I upgraded my 755p to 1.07 (then1.08) with other headsets. But now I can listen to my music and take calls and everything works like it's supposed to.

I'll be using these during exercise and while doing yard work so I hope I won't have a problem with sweat. I definately will not blow into the earpieces!

Motorola S9-HD will not wake-up

Postby gabvoice2 » Wed Apr 15, 2009 7:23 pm

I use a Motorola S9-HD with Treo 755P.

The S9-HD powers-off after an hour of idle time.
When a call comes in, I can't ever tell if it's going to respond or not.

Is there a way to keep the S9 on stand-by mode all the time?
Imagine a God's eye-view of the world. What do you see? <><

Well, I've had my new S9 HDs for a month or so now, and the experience so far has been very positive. I've had a handful of very sweaty workouts, and so far, so good!

Re: Moto S9?

Probably the last post on this subject. I have been using my Moto S9-HD for a year now and well. They work great. I recommend them to all SAG users or just A2DP bluetooth music listeners in general.

Thanks all for support and listening to my ranting. Happy 2010! :D :D :D :D
